She-Bulk Unmasked: The Cosplay Enigma Speaks

Chit Chat:

Question 1: So, we know you as She Hulk Cosplay, the reigning Ms. Musclenerdz, and a master of many iconic characters… but it’s like you’re operating under a superhero alias! Is your real name a closely guarded government secret, a code name for a secret society of cosplayers, or are you just really, really good at avoiding paperwork?

Answer: I’m doing really well, and keeping my name a secret, similar to Superman. If you look closely enough (past the glasses), you might know what I do for a living and my name.

Question 2: You’ve portrayed She-Hulk so powerfully, but what’s it like to delve into characters like Red Sonja or White Raven? What different strengths do those characters challenge you to embody?

Answer: Both characters have a difficult past, and to some extent, I can relate to that. Despite their hardships, they push forward, making the most of their circumstances. The journey is never easy, yet they continue to move ahead, refusing to let their past hold them back. Their strength isn’t just in what’s visible—it comes from within.

Question 3: What’s the funniest comment or DM you’ve ever received about your cosplay, and how did you react?

Answer: Not all comments are in support of what you do. I once received a comment asking about my bodysuit for Selene from Underworld. In response, I explained how I got the piece.

Question 4: Winning Ms. Musclenerdz 2023 is a huge achievement. How has this recognition impacted your confidence and approach to cosplay? What does it mean to you?

Answer: Winning Ms. Musclenerdz 2023 was truly a beautiful moment and experience. The journey to be dedicated and committed was a test I put my self to try for the first time. I had never pushed myself this far before. From fitness side to cosplay creation to a routine to present blending the two. It showed if you put your mind to it you can achieve it.

Question 5: What initially drew you to cosplay, and what keeps you passionate about it today?

Answer: In my line of work, I’m often exposed to the darker side of humanity. Cosplay became an outlet for me—a way to take my mind off it, create something beautiful, and share my love for fandoms with others.

Question 6: Out of all the characters you’ve cosplayed, which one do you feel the most personal connection to, and why?

Answer: I’ve always felt a strong connection to Ahsoka Tano. From a young age, I’ve questioned why things are the way they are, never blindly following one side without truly evaluating the situation. That deep sense of independence and balance resonates with the Grey Jedi philosophy.

Question 7: Where do you see your cosplay journey taking you in the next 5 years? What are your goals?

Answer: Currently started to roll back in the cosplay community. Maybe visit 1 or 2 conventions a year. Go to ones outside of Florida, which cost money in its self. wanting to travel the world more but stay connected with my cosplay community.

Question 8: What is the most challenging aspect of creating a detailed cosplay, from concept to finished product? Materials, techniques, mental stamina?

Answer: The most challenging part of cosplay is gathering all the necessary reference shots. For example, I’m currently working on Aladdin’s wedding suit from the Broadway version, but there are no available photos of the back of the cape anywhere. I searched through museum archives, videos of the displayed piece, concept art from the designer, and interviews—yet found nothing. Finally, after a five-day deep dive, I discovered it in an advertising video for the production at around 1 AM. In my opinion, finding accurate references is the hardest part.

Question 9: If you could give one piece of advice to someone who dreams of creating their own amazing cosplays, what would it be?

Answer: Go for it and never stop trying! If something goes wrong while making your cosplay, remember—it’s okay. It took me three months and nearly five mock-up versions to get my jellyfish back piece right. Don’t hesitate to ask other cosplayers for advice on their techniques. My DMs are always open to help others bring their characters to life. I’m happy to share my process—no gatekeeping!

Life is Beautiful

Rapid Fire Segment:

Favorite Superhero Pose: She-Hulk’s classic power pose or a sassy Red Sonja stance?

She-Hulk power poses, but sometimes it’s all dependent on my mood.

Cosplay Prop Mishap: “What was your most embarrassing cosplay prop malfunction?”

I was at a Make-A-Wish event dressed as Mighty Thor, pretending the hammer was too heavy for the little ones to lift. Suddenly, a kid from another family came running up, shouting, “I am worthy!” They grabbed Mjolnir, lifted it high—then slammed it straight into the floor. Mjolnir shattered.

“You’re beyond worthy, little one.”

Convention Food of Choice: “Convention pizza or overpriced coffee?”

Change it to overpriced coffee and that’s a winner every time.

Heels or battle boots for a convention?

Heels—I love a bold pair! I’ve even mastered running in them and can use them as a weapon if necessary.

What’s the song you always put on to get into cosplay mode

If it’s not a themed cosplay with a soundtrack, then it’s Lindsey Stirling.

The best compliment you’ve ever received about your cosplay?

A Xena screenwriter shared my Xena cosplay! His wife spotted me walking around downtown Atlanta, Georgia, and, since I was too far away, she snapped a photo of me. He later shared it on the DragonCon page. Just knowing that it reached him was a compliment in itself!

If you could make a cosplay out of ANY material in the world (money no object!) what would it be?

That’s a tough one if it comes with learning the skill/knowledge I would say leather work. I played with the fashion side but creating armor and all the details with it.
